At the National Police Air Service (NPAS), our pilots play a vital role in policing across England and Wales - supporting frontline officers 24/7, 365 days a year.
We are looking for experienced helicopter pilots to join our team, delivering critical aerial support that helps save lives, prevent crime and keep communities safe.
With more than 20,000 deployments each year, no two days are the same. From fast-paced pursuits to supporting major national events, this is flying that truly makes a difference.
The role
Working alongside Tactical Flight Officers, you will apply your skills across a wide range of operational scenarios, including:
- Pursuit of stolen vehicles
- Searching for missing persons and suspects
- Supporting firearms incidents
- Assisting with major public events and national operations
You may also be required to land and assist people in distress, making this a uniquely hands-on and rewarding aviation role.

What we are looking for
To be considered, applicants must hold:
- UK Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter) with RT Licence
- Valid UK CAA Class 1 Medical (unrestricted)
- English Language Proficiency Level 6
Minimum flying experience requirements:
- 1,500 hours total helicopter time (or 1,000 military)
- 100 hours night flying, including 20 hours PIC at night
- 500 hours PIC overland under VMC
- Significant overland experience in a comparable operating environment
You will also need:
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a crew
- The ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- A full UK driving licence
- At least three years’ UK residency (for vetting purposes)
Selection process
The selection process includes a simulator assessment (H135) and interview panel.

Candidates must be available to attend one of these dates.
Start dates are planned throughout 2027.
