JOB SUMMARY:

As a Medical Helicopter Pilot, you will be responsible for safely transporting medical personnel and equipment to and from emergency scenes, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. You will play a crucial role in providing rapid and efficient air medical transport for critically ill or injured patients. This position requires excellent flying skills, quick decision-making abilities, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and medical teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

FLIGHT OPERATIONS:

 

  • Safely operate medical helicopters in various weather conditions, both day and night. -single pilot VFR and IFR.
  • Conduct pre-flight inspections to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness
  • Adhere to all aviation regulations and protocols

EMERGENCY RESPONSE:

  • Respond promptly to emergency medical calls, ensuring rapid and safe transport of patients
  • Collaborate with medical teams to facilitate efficient loading and unloading of patients and medical equipment

COMMUNICATION:

 

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with air traffic control, medical personnel, and ground crews
  • Provide timely updates on flight status and any relevant changes during transport

NAVIGATION AND ROUTE PLANNING:

  • Plan flight routes, considering factors such as weather conditions, fuel requirements, and airspace restrictions
  • Navigate aircraft using GPS, radar, and other navigation tools

SAFETY PROCEDURES

  • Enforce and adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times
  • Participate in regular safety training sessions to stay current on best practices

MAINTENANCE AND REPORTING:

 

  • Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions promptly
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure the helicopter is in optimal working condition

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:

  • FAA Commercial Pilot License with Instrument and Helicopter ratings but must obtain an ATP within 1 year
  • Current and valid Class I or Class II Medical Certificate.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of total flight time.
  • Prior experience as a helicopter pilot, preferably in emergency medical services (EMS) or a related field. 

SKILLS

 

  • Excellent flying and navigation skills.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Effective communication skills.

OTHER

 

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clean driving record and background check.

NOTES:

  • An FBI background and CORI checks will be performed prior to employment. 
  • PRIA records check, pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen prior to hire. 
  • Must pass random drug and alcohol screening in accordance with Part 120 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
