Job Summary
This position exists to provide pilot services for the Department of Public Safety State Patrol Flight section helicopter pilot which provides helicopter and fixed wing support for public safety officials across Minnesota. Duties include all day and night flights in search and rescue operations, search and find operations, active patrol operations as well as transportation operations. Pilots are required to assure that operations are conducted with responsibility and accountability, including the highest degree of flight safety, efficiency, convenience, and professionalism.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Experience with the following:
- 2nd Class Airman's Medical License
- Rotorcraft Commercial Aircraft License
- Fixed Wing Commercial Aircraft License
- Fixed Wing Instrument Rating
- Vertical reference helicopter certification and experience
- Live-load short haul training and experience.
- Night vision goggle initial certification and a minimum of 100 hours of use.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated training and experience in the following areas:
- Ability to operate in high stress active law enforcement and emerging public safety environments. This includes (and is not limited to) making sound decisions in rapidly evolving scenarios, communicating visual scenes over the radio to ground personnel, directing and conveying tactical environments and decision to ground personnel, maintaining situational awareness and crew decision making communication within the aircraft.
- Use of a Wescam Mx-10 turret with visual and IR capability.
- Ability to communicate directions for response in active law enforcement and emergency response scenes.
- Ability to operate Technisonic 9100 multi-band airborne receiver.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work outside exposed to the weather elements (both cold and hot) on a regular basis. The employee will frequently fly an airplane/helicopter and must be able to overpower the autopilot. The employee will walk on even and uneven/sloping ground, occasionally up to three miles per day. The employee will work in the airport environment walking on active ramps, taxiways, and runways during the day. The employee must rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting) while conducting aircraft preflight inspections. The employee must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the eyes, hearing, respiration, and visibility from injury. The employee must have a 2nd class flight medical certificate. Information is communicated through writing, speaking, and using the telephone. The employee regularly works at a desk or counter, seated, and enters information into a computer and visually interprets information off a computer monitor.
