Director of Operations and/or Director of Safety and Quality
The Assistant Director of Operations coordinates with the Operations and Safety departments and is responsible for providing support with organizing and supervising remote operations. The Assistant Director of Operations travels to field locations and provides feedback to the Director of Operations on safety, living and morale conditions of the crew. This includes communicating with YHL flight crews and clients regarding operational requirements / difficulties encountered, including flight safety issues that are job specific, and acting as Director of Operations while the DOO is away on business or time off.
The Assistant Director of Operations also works with the Safety Department on flight safety issues which include reviewing SITRs, conducting field audits, conducting base inspections, conducting job site inspections, creating audit templates and Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) related duties.
• Ensure company and pilots are meeting Client standards.
• Provide support for flight operations (planning and safety).
• Fill in for Director of Operations when away on business or vacation.
• Spend time in the field during job start up and provide ongoing project management support.
• Assist with writing YHL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring aircrews and ground crews are conforming to established SOPs
• On-going communication with pilots, base managers and clients
• Communicating to client any unsafe conditions and/or unrealistic expectations.
• Provide on the job aircrew and client evaluations (relationship, competency).
• Communicate with aircrews to learn of underlying problems.
• Logistical planning for pilot crew changes and jobs, including ensuring that crew scheduling complies with flight and duty time regulations
• Support the Operations Support Centre and Chief Pilot
• Assisting the Director of Operations with projects
• Fielding operational questions, comments, and concerns that arise on a daily basis
• Work site visits (liaise with clients and YHL aircrew).
• May involve on occasion:
o Liaising with any external agencies which may affect YHL operations
o Reviewing and approving pilot timesheets & expenses
o Contacting fuel suppliers and organizing fuel requirements for projects/ jobs
o Updating weekly Operations Report
• Other duties as required.
• Provide a supporting role for flight operations risk management.
• Involved as a member of the YHL flight operations quality assurance (FOQA) team, reviewing and investigating SITRs, and participating in Risk Assessments, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Plans.
• Ensuring aircrews and ground crews are conforming to YHL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Communicating to client any unsafe conditions and/or unrealistic expectations.
• Provide on the job aircrew and client evaluations (relationship, competency).
• Create audit templates.
• Conduct field audits and inspections.
• Communicate with aircrews to learn of underlying problems (real or perceived).
• Other duties as required.
• A well rounded knowledge of the Canadian Commercial Helicopter industry.
• Extensive operational helicopter pilot experience (commercial).
• A good understanding of Safety Management Systems.
• Safety Systems Audit training.
• Able to work with little or no supervision.
• Must reside in the Prince George area.
