About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Training and Checking Aircrew Officer to join our dedicated team at the LifeFlight Training Academy in Brisbane. This full-time position operates on an equal-time roster and includes the use of a company vehicle, with travel required to support our teams and training programs.
In this vital role, you’ll help foster the highest standards of safety, skill, and professionalism across LifeFlight’s aeromedical and search and rescue operations by providing training and checking duties, while also delivering quality training and checking services to external clients.
Your expertise will play a key role in developing capable and confident Aircrew Officers who make a real difference in critical missions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering engaging and practical training in both aircraft and simulator environments.
- Conducting checks to ensure compliance with CASA and LifeFlight operational standards.
- Providing constructive feedback and targeted coaching to support continuous professional growth.
- Maintaining operational flying duties as an active Aircrew Officer.
- Overseeing compliance, qualification management, and accurate training record keeping.

About You
You’re an experienced Helicopter Aircrew Officer with at least 1,000 flying hours and a genuine passion for developing others. Backed by a Certificate IV in Aviation – Aircrew Officer and proven Training and Checking experience in the civilian EMS industry, you’re ready to take on a role that blends operational flying with leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
You’ll bring:
- NVIS, Winch & Rappel, HUET/EBS, CRM, and Dangerous Goods qualifications
- A CASA Class 2 Medical and current Senior First Aid / CPR certification
- SAR/EMS experience on B412 or AW139 aircraft
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills, with a supportive and ethical approach
- The ability to remain calm under pressure, think creatively, and deliver results in dynamic environments
As part of the recruitment process, candidates will be required to complete a Functionality Assessment within a two-hour timeframe, which includes:
- Abdominal Strength Test: 30 sit-ups in under 2 minutes
- Upper Body Strength Test: 20 push-ups in under 2 minutes
- Safe Lifting Techniques: 5 kettlebell deadlifts
- 1km Equipment Transfer (16kg): under 10 minutes
- 500m Stretcher Carry (16kg): under 6 minutes
