About the Position
Performs difficult technical work piloting a medevac helicopter, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the EMS Chief Pilot/Director of Operations.
*This is the 40-hr base salary without scheduled OT.*
*Pilots work a 7-on/7-off schedule and all hours worked over 40-hr/week are compensated at time and a half. The base salary range does not include the scheduled overtime reflective of the shift work.*
*Resident requirement is no more than 1 hour from Dare County, NC.
Job Duties
- Operate a rotary wing aircraft in response to emergency medical requests, searches, natural disasters or other approved missions.
- Assumes responsibility for safety of passengers, cargo and medical personnel.
- Determines the airworthiness of the aircraft and inspects maintenance documents to include status sheet.
- Analyzes aircraft performance and weather conditions to determine flight acceptance.
- Drives and operates assigned motor vehicles and equipment.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Position Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of helicopter operation.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of helicopter air ambulance operations.
- Thorough knowledge of FAA standards and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of air navigation and rotary wing aircraft capabilities and performance.
- Thorough knowledge of flight planning, meteorology and aircraft maintenance requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of local geography and weather phenomenon.
- Ability to operate an aircraft in full compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and safety guidance.
- Ability to read weather charts, aviation publications, charts and sectionals, and instrument approach plates.
- Ability to understand weight and balance diagrams.
- Ability to understand, enter data, and operate/utilize electronic flight bag and other aviation related software programs.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to establish, demonstrate and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with peers, associates and the public, while ensuring the safe, efficient, customer-focused operation of the aircraft.
- Adhere to company uniform, materials, and equipment as required by General Operations Manual and other company/Departmental manuals and policies.
- Attend training events as directed and to maintain pilot currency.
- Maintain a high level of personal decorum and professional conduct.
- Exceptional customer service skills and abilities.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
- Applicants need to attach a current resume, as well as, a copy of your current flight hour summary from your flight log book or military records, to the job application.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Commercial and Instrument Rating (for category and class of aircraft)
- Second-Class Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical certificate
- Dare MedFlight is a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program and the following are required for consideration:
- 2,000 total flight hours with minimum of 1,500 flight hours in category
- 1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in category
- 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time
- 200 hours of cross-country flight time, at least 50 hours of which were at night
- 100 hours unaided night as PIC (or 50 hours of unaided and 100 hours of Night Vison Goggle time)
- Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive company, FAA and DOT required pre-employment screening, criminal background check, drug test, motor vehicle driving record, PRIA records check, Office of Inspector General List of Excluded Individuals, and National Sex Offender Public Website registry.
- Subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per the DOT/FAA requirements (pre-employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, and post-accident).
- Must be able to work any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, all Departmental and County personnel, hospitals and the public. Strives to maintain a friendly and professional working environment.
- Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator, or in the military, within the previous 24 months.
- Dare MedFlight is a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program and the following are required for consideration:
