Job Summary

Serves as Pilot-in-Command. Responsible for the safety of passengers and crew and the comfortable, timely operation of the aircraft. Supervises the flight crew and ensures that all flight and ground operations comply with FAA Regulations. Determines flight routes, speed, and take-off and landing times to fulfill scheduling requirements. Make decisions regarding possible delays, rerouting or flight cancellations. May perform other general department duties when not flying.

Duties

Ensures compliance with FAA and ICAO Regulations.
Is the final authority for the safe operation of assigned Duke Energy aircraft.
Note, The Corporate Captain will not be subject to coercion by any company departmental managers or customers. Good judgment shall always prevail.
Participates in the Safety Management System.
Supervises the operation of assigned aircraft and crew.
Determines appropriate course of action to ensure safety of flight, passengers, and company property.
Prepares flight plan, fuel load, weight and balance calculations
Ensures their personal iPad is updated and adequately charged for the assigned flight; Provides on the job training for the Corporate Co-Pilot (Second-in-Command).
Ensures all passenger needs are met.
Ensures corporate flight crew compliance with policies and procedures for the operation of the aircraft.
Initiates any changes necessary for the start, delay, modification, or cancellation of assigned flights
Ensures that the flight will not be commenced if a crew member is incapacitated from performing duties by any cause such as injury, sickness, fatigue, or the effects of any psychoactive substance
Ensure that the flight will not be continued beyond the nearest suitable airport when a crewmember's capacity to perform functions is significantly reduced by impairment of faculties from causes such as fatigue, sickness, or lack of oxygen.
Confirms any environmental rules and procedures at destination and enroute airports and notifies other assigned flight crew members, as necessary.
Ensures the Passenger Safety Briefing is provided to the passengers, as required.
Continually monitors the amount of usable fuel to ensure a safe landing with appropriate fuel reserves and communicates with ATC during abnormal situations.
Reports all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents to the Corporate Chief Pilot as soon as practical.
Reports any act of unlawful interference to the FAA or State (Mandatory Occurrence Report), as appropriate, and to the designated local authority.
As soon as possible, reports to the appropriate ATC facility any hazardous weather or flight conditions encountered that are likely to affect the safety of other aircraft.
In the event of an accident/ incident, preserves flight and cockpit voice recorder data.
Notifies the appropriate authority, by the quickest available means, of any accident involving the aircraft (except where the PIC is incapacitated, when it will become the responsibility of the Corporate Chief Pilot or senior flight crewmember).
Assumes any duties delegated by the Corporate Chief Pilot.

Responsibilities

Supervises the operation of assigned aircraft and flight crew, including all pre-flight, in-flight and post flight activity. Captain prepares flight plans, performance calculations, weather considerations, checks NOTAMs / TFRs, completes Flight Risk Assessment and checks any other information pertinent to the safe operations of the aircraft. Uses effective Crew Resource Management and Aeronautical Decision Making to ensure safety of passengers and company property. Ensures all passenger needs have been met for the duration of the flight.
Department Roles, Training Captain, Internal Auditor, Safety Officer, Standards Captain, FDM Gate Keeper, Security, Lead Aircraft, Pilot, International Trip Captain
Maintains required pilot and medical certificates. Completes initial aircraft type rating, annual recurrent training and any additionally flight or company required training.
Assists in the Aviation Safety Management system by submitting observed Hazards/Incidents and performing Risk Assessments and Root Cause Analysis

Basic/Required Qualifications

GED/HS and 10 plus years work related experience.
Air Transport Pilot certification

Desired Qualifications

FAA Commercial/Instrument or ATP Rotorcraft License.
Possess the ability to establish effective relationships with executives, customers, and fellow team members.
Customer service and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate to Senior Management on a daily basis.
Presentation skills and public speaking.

Working Conditions

Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
Outside in all kinds of weather, high noise environment, prolonged sitting (5 hours or more) ability to lift 50 lbs when loading baggage, on call when not on vacation. Duty days of 14 hours are common. Will be required to be overnight away from home 75 + nights per year.
